Life Updates

Lots have happened in the past two weeks. The first thing being… BOOMER SOONER! The Oklahoma Sooners won the Red River Rivalry in the great city of Dallas, Texas. On top of that, the Dallas Cowboys are playing as we speak, they are not looking so good. They are currently being beat by a team who has lost all their games so far, the New York Giants.

Ok enough for my football updates. When we left off a couple weeks ago, I was getting into the InDesign app from Adobe. I learned that this application is easier to use than Photoshop but I enjoy Photoshop more. Although this project was an InDesign project, I was still able to use photoshop for some of the decorative aspects of this project. The project we just completed was a newsletter. The newsletter had to be at least five pages long containing four different stories from a company.

The company I chose to do this project over was Pepsi. Below is the cover page I created for this Pepsi newsletter. I enjoyed creating the cover page because I was able to use both Photoshop and InDesign. The images were all cropped and created in Photoshop and the text on the cover page was created in InDesign.

The cover page is the same as the back page except for the date. I took off the date from the cover page and replaced it with the Pepsi logo for the back page.

Next, I have four stories that I included into my newsletter. I will include two of the four stories below. Using InDesign for the newsletter text was difficult because you never know exactly how long the text from the chosen article is going to be. Before you add the text from the article, you need to create a layout for where you want the text, images and titles. Below is the first article in my newsletter. One of the requirements we had to fulfill was a jump article. A jump article is where the text continues to flow onto another page.

In the above article, the color and the text were created in InDesign. The images and logos in the article were created in Photoshop. Another requirement was to have pull quotes in at least one article. I enjoy including the pull quotes because it breaks up the article and provides more of a design feature to the page.

The above article is very different from the first in my mind. Some more things you have to take into account when creating work in InDesign is what it will look like when you print it. For these particular articles, I had to pay a lot of attention to the watermark I put on the back of the articles. When you print it, you need to make sure the watermark is not too dark where it blends in with the text when printed. A simply way to figure this out is just by printing it and adjusting accordingly. Another thing you need to check when working with InDesign is the border on the page. It is better to add extra space as the border because when transferring via email or printing it, there is a good chance the format will be slightly off after being transferred.

These are the main updates I have regarding football and my progress in the PR Publications class. I hope you’ve enjoyed and see you all again soon!
