COVID-19 and Adobe

This is going to be a shorter blog post because of the Coronavirus. My class has not been meeting since our professor came in contact with the virus so I do not have as much to update in this post. A cool thing that I have learned in the past two weeks is how to use Adobe Illustrator. While I have no yet attempted to use this application, I watched and completed the Learning Infographic Design course on LinkedIn. In this post, I will talk to you about what I have learned about the new-to-me Adobe application and what my pans are for moving forward.

First I will be talking about what I have learned from the basics of Adobe Illustrator. When we were allowed to return to class on Thursday, October 22, we watched How to Draw Ketmit the Frog Drinking Tea with Muffalo Potato. While of course I was skeptical to why we were watching this video, it all made sense in the end. Our professor wanted us to learn how to create simple things. The drawing of Kermit the Frog was made with only letters and numbers showing the simplicity of things. This links to the Adobe Illustrator application because we are going to start out very simply. Below is the drawing I created in class of Kermit the Frog using only letters and numbers.

As I talked about in my last blog post, I am starting a project that contains statistical information regarding OU’s numbers when it comes to Gaylord College. I will be creating an infographic like the ones I learned about in the LinkedIn course. The infographic I have planned out will have four separate panels along with the title at the top. A website shared with me that I think will be extremely helpful when creating my infographic is called The Noun Project. This website has over 3 million icons and images for our use. After simply browsing the website, I got many ideas for the infographic I am creating and how I will use the images to capture my viewers’ attention. During class on Thursday, I was able to practice a little bit with the Adobe Illustrator application by creating a camera icon with simple shapes and features offered in the application. Below is a screenshot capture of the camera icon I created.

While I do not have many updates to share with you, I am excited for the new journey I am embarking on with Adobe Illustrator. Check back in a couple weeks to see the end results and read about the process of my infographic.
